First book of Hamdi Makhlouf

Metamorphoses of ‘ūd. From organology to compositional space is a new french book, written by Hamdi Makhlouf, lutenist, composer, musicologist and lecturer at the Higher Institute of Music (University of Tunis). The book is edited by the Center for Arab and Mediterranean Music (Ennejma Ezzahra) and Sotumedias editions.

This book suggests a different approach of the historical and organological evolution of ‘ūd (Arab-Oriental lute), but also the different ways of its practice since the second half of the 20th century. The author, Hamdi Makhlouf, tried to highlight a relationship between two variable elements : the development of the ‘ūd‘s morphology and the evolution of interpretation and musical composition.
